Crackpot Group Files Ballot Measure for California Voters Calling for the State to Secede from the Union

Angry about the election of Donald Trump as President, the "Yes California Independence Campaign," a crackpot left-wing political activist group, has filed a ballot measure for Californians to vote on in 2019, which calls for the state to secede from the union and become an "independent nation" -- if more than 55% of registered voters say "yes" to the measure. The California Constitution says: "The State of California is an inseparable part of the United States of America, and the United States Constitution is the supreme law of the land."

A state holds no right to secede under federal law. Californians would need to pass an amendment to the US Constitution, which requires the blessings of the other 49 states.
